Purple Haze
We believe our farm should celebrate all that acreage can provide. A sustainable perennial crop of organically grown flowers, a working farm that harvests the lavender by hand, distilling it into oils, hanging it in bundles to dry, and creating value-added products from the essential oils and sachet.
Our flock of chickens, orchard, vegetable and perennial flower and herb gardens provide both sustenance and beauty. We also take care to provide natural areas for both native flora and wildlife.
We are committed to sustainable farming and follow organic farming practices and protocol at every level of our operation. We are happy to open our farm to the public with the hopes it gives the visitor a glimpse of America’s agricultural roots, a place for learning, relaxation and celebration, and a meaningful and authentic connection to the natural world.
Purple Haze’s lavender fields contain several thousand plants of a few dozen different varieties. Our mainstays are Royal Velvet, Melissa, Gosso and Hidcote Giant. We also grow several rows of Helichrysum italicum and the brilliant yellow flowers contrast dramatically with the shades of lavender. The rows of lavender, when blooming, vary from white and pink to shades of violet and deep purple.
We choose our varieties based on their aromatherapy, perfumery, culinary, floral, and landscaping uses. Our farm also features a 1.2 million BTU propane fired distillery unit that can process 750 pounds of lavender flowers at a time, creating our beloved lavender essential oils and hydrosols.
When you visit, you are invited to wander the farm (please stay on the perimeter of the fields) and enjoy the beauty of this sweet smelling herb, pick your own bouquet of flowers, picnic on the lawns, and experience all the wonders of our farm.
The farm opens Memorial Day weekend and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday thru Labor Day Weekend. The farm is closed on Mondays.
In addition to paths to wander, grass to lay down in, chairs to sit in, and refreshments to partake in, the farm also has a charming gift shop in the drying shed featuring Purple Haze Lavender products as well as a bevy fun, whimsical, unique and useful items. The gift shop opens Memorial Day Weekend and is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday- Sunday thru Labor Day Weekend.
Just outside the drying shed is Bell Bottom Beverages and our Ice Cream Shed where we serve up our tasty lavender lemonade and several flavors of yummy lavender ice cream and Italian Ice. The beverage and ice cream stand open typically the second weekend in June and remain open thru Labor Day.
